Hi everyone. I’m looking into all aspects of starting a CFO. I am planning on staying small (no wedding cakes, lol). Did catering for a bunch of years, had to retire for medical reasons. Looking into the CFO option to stay dabbling in an industry i enjoy.

It depends on what state you live in, but in almost all states, cheese cannot be an ingredient in any cottage food item. Baking dried tomatoes into bread will probably be allowed. Jalapenos are less likely, but possible if they’re baked in the bread.

The cottage food law covers spices and seasonings, so yes, you can make those, and yes, you would be limited to less than $20,000 of sales. You need to get a sales tax certificate.

It is possible that you can sell them at private events and make them in your home kitchen, but it entirely depends on what state you live in. Where do you live?
