I dont have any idea aboout dog. but cake business is just amazing startup. I am probably not the best one to give you advice since I only do this for my family but here is what I would do. First be fully aware of what each cake costs you that means everything cake boards, utilities, materials, your time including the shopping & clean up. Do…[Read more]

hi, I am I Utah. I would like to make Chai Tea and sell to local coffee houses etc. Is this allowed? I know there are two routes in Utah, looks like it may be allowed under the Food Freedom Law, but then it would not be legal to sell wholesale. Hum? Should I call the Cottage Food coordinator and ask? Thanks!

Yes that is allowed in NM. You need to take a food safety course and depending on your area, you might need a permit from the health dept as well. Read through this page, especially the Business section: https://forrager.com/law/new-mexico/

Hi! Thx I’ve found this thread before starting my old idea. As an old-school brewer and latte fan, I’ve been wanting to open a little coffee shop. Also purchased some additional latte stuff – Nespresso machines, new grinder etc. I never thought about it from the standpoint of the law, so I’m going to get to know everything, and I’m going to write…[Read more]

I’d recommend checking with your local ag dept. Because it’s generally low-risk, sometimes there are special rules that allow someone to sell home-brewed coffee, or even coffee that’s brewed on-site (like at a market). This likely would not fall under the regulations for PA’s limited food establishments. If the ag dept requires a permit to do…[Read more]

Hello All,
Hoping someone can give me direction on this, I’ve searched to the best of my abilities with no luck , and may have possibly missed it. What are the regulations with brewing coffee at home to then sell outside the home? Only things taking place within the home would be the brewing of the coffee an it being put into a container.

You’re correct. This would be allowed to sell directly to people under the food freedom law, but it won’t be allowed to sell it to coffee houses. I suggest starting to sell under the food freedom law, and then moving to a commercial kitchen when you’re ready to grow.
