Hi, I’m in California. I make home made brittle and maple butter mixed nut products. I will be selling for the first time in a couple of weeks. When I went to my local Farmers market, I was told that I needed a TFF permit. I am in the process of getting my Class A to start but didn’t think I needed the TFF permit. I will be giving out “packaged”…[Read more]

I think at least one other person in this group is a Memphis local. I’m looking into selling a few non-PHFs under the cottage food law, and I’m totally new to the concept! Two questions – well, three:
1) Do I have to file something with the state to operate under the cottage food laws, or just follow the requirements (about labelling, sign…[Read more]B & Bees Provisions joined the group Tennessee 7 years ago

I am new here and having trouble finding rules/laws for selling candy online. For years I have made Carmel popcorn for friends and family and I’m considering mail order/online sales. Can anyone help with Oklahoma laws. As far as I can tell it only baked goods. Thank you in advance

I don’t think you can sell from your retail store, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask the ag dept to see if they will allow it.

You need to contact your health or ag dept. The requirements are different in every area.
David Crabill replied to the topic Question about free samples of a non-PHF (coffee) brewed to order for sampling in the forum Tennessee 7 years, 7 months ago
Certain cottage foods cannot be sampled in their prepared state, such as dip mixes. The ability to sell roasted coffee does not include prepared coffee, but some states do allow the sale of coffee and tea because those are low-risk items. You should contact the ag dept to learn about the rules for selling prepared coffee.

I’m curious as to whether a coffee roaster selling roasted beans (a non-PHF under TN law) at a Farmer’s Market may offer free samples of coffee it brews to order. The law in TN states that “[a]ll nonpotentially hazardous food from a home based kitchen may be distributed as free samples.” But coffee, once brewed, techinically has the “potential”…[Read more]

I believe that you would need a commercial kitchen to sell either pizza or pasta. You can’t use the cottage food law. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial
David Crabill replied to the topic Selling Candy at Private Events and Custom Orders in the forum Candy 7 years, 9 months ago
It is possible that you can sell them at private events and make them in your home kitchen, but it entirely depends on what state you live in. Where do you live?

Are you not able to create a domestic kitchen because you have pets, I assume?
I’d recommend that you start by selling your jams and chutneys locally with the basic cottage food law, before trying to sell online.
If you want to sell online, I don’t know of any loophole that would prevent you from needing to get a commercial kitchen and properly…[Read more]
