Hi there,
It's been a long time coming, but we're finally here!
It's official: on Monday (Oct 4th), New Jersey's new cottage food rules were finally published into law.
They are the last state to get a cottage food law, and now that it is in the books, I have removed the "Pending" and "None" labels from
Forrager's map.
I have also updated
New Jersey's law page, so you can learn the details about their new law, and also see how it compares to the other states on
the map.
Although New Jersey now has a cottage food law, it isn't
quite usable yet by their citizens.
First, the health department needs to start accepting (and approving) applications.
The good news is that this is expected to happen soon -- sometime this month.
Contrast that to Washington, which took
almost a year to start accepting applications after their law took effect back in 2011!
That's not going to happen to New Jersey. Their application is already complete... all of the hard work is done. They just need to update
their website and start approving cottage food businesses!
So congrats, New Jersey! It's been
a loooong road. I look forward to seeing hundreds (or more likely, thousands) of legal cottage food businesses cropping up from your state very soon!
Until next week,
David
