Hi,

I know it's been a long time since you've heard from me or since I've been active on Forrager. As it turns out, there's a pretty good reason for that: her name is Tara.

David & Tara Wedding
I met Tara about 2 years ago, which (unsurprisingly) is when my involvement in the cottage food industry dropped dramatically. Since then, my life has been full of big changes: 6 months after we first met, we got engaged, then a few months after that, I moved across country* (from Boston to California) to live with Tara, and then a few months after that, we got married! And the changes didn't stop after the honeymoon... just a few months ago, we moved from the Bay Area and settled into a home in Sacramento with our dog, Mooney.

When I was on my college's solar car team, we had a saying: "School -- life -- solar car: pick two". Now I can amend that: "Work -- family -- Forrager: pick two". Once I met Tara, my focus naturally shifted to work and family, and Forrager went by the wayside. I ended up ignoring most of the comments and emails that piled up, which led to some people wondering if I had dropped off the face of the earth. As one person asked me in a recent email: "David? Are you actually there?"

Well, the answer is yes, I am still here, albeit after a long break. Forrager mostly stayed intact in my absence, though a few pieces fell off the wagon and it's now quite overloaded with things to take care of. Updating laws**, fixing CFO listings, responding to questions... just to name a few (not to mention the things I'd like to improve!).

In order to make time to refocus on Forrager, I've decided to drop my other web development work for now. I'm fortunate to have Tara fully supporting me in this venture, and simply put, helping cottage food fanatics like you is some of the most fulfilling work I've ever done!

There's a lot more to say, but for the sake of brevity I'll save it for a future update. Just so you know, I do read all of my emails, even if I don't always respond, so please feel free to reply to this if you'd like -- I will see it!

So in summary, I apologize for being so out of touch with you for so long, but hopefully you can forgive me! I'm glad to be back.

David

John and Lisa Visit
* When I drove across country, I got to visit John and Lisa (authors of Homemade for Sale) at their Inn Serendipity B&B farm. That was great and they are awesome!
** I will be updating Forrager with the groundbreaking AB 626 bill in CA, but I have a few cautionary things to say about it. I will put that into a blog post soon... if you'd like to be notified, make sure you get blog updates by clicking the "change your subscription options" link down below.
