I've had a few podcast guests who tried to raise money through crowdfunding.
Way back in
Episode 14, Patricia successfully raised over $17k on Kickstarter.
And in
Episode 21, Melvin tried raising $5k on Kickstarter, but failed to reach his goal (which means he received no money from the campaign).
But wow,
I've never seen anything quite like what's on this week's podcast episode!Diana tried to raise $20k on GoFundMe, but she ended up raising less than $1k. As she says, it was an epic failure.
Most people would have ditched crowdfunding at that point.
But Diana came back the next year, sought the help of crowdfunding experts, and tried it again.
And this time,
she raised $57,100!It is, by far, the most successful crowdfunding campaign that I've seen for a cottage food business.
But I will say this: it comes with a big catch.
And that's not really a bad thing, but her successful campaign was quite different from a Kickstarter or GoFundMe campaign.
This is a
great episode, not only for learning about Diana's amazing fundraising campaign, but also her fluky startup story and the many challenges she's faced as she built up her home bakery into what it is today.
