Neerja Tripathi started the topic How to find a cottage food person for public event? in the forum Maryland 6 years ago
I was wondering how does one find small, local cottage food vendors for public events? All the professional bakers I know are the bake shop variety. I am organizing a public event in Bethesda and would really like a woman baker or jam/jellies maker to attend it. I just do not know how to find and approach one. Please help.

Although you don’t need anything from the health dept, you might need to adhere to licenses or requirements for starting a home business. Also, you will need whatever the farmers market or event requires. Here’s some more info: http://forrager.com/faq/#starting

Hi! Is there a form or application that has to be filled out and submitted to have your business registered as a cottage Food Business in MD? I spoke with an admin assistant at my county’s DHMH Food Protection Division and she said nothing has to be filed with the health dept. Anyone know of anything or can I just dive right in?

No — the food must not require refrigeration. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

The ag dept is responsible for enforcing the cottage food law, so if they don’t know, then I sure don’t. You basically need to find out if they will allow you to make food with alcohol in it, and if so, do you need to get an alcohol license? You can also try contacting the Alcohol Division to see if they know.

Usually you need to produce that in a commercial kitchen. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

Mobile food trucks have different rules… you should call the health dept about how to start your food truck business.
