Brooklin started the topic Farmers' Markets/Flea Markets in the forum Venues & Services 9 years, 7 months ago
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on selling baked goods at local flea/farmer’s markets? I know that produce sells pretty well, but I’ve not seen a lot of baked goods (not here in AK anyways). There are, however, quite a few local markets in my area; and I was thinking it might be worth a try. I’m still not sure, though…so I wanted some…[Read more]

Ashley, you won’t be able to transfer it. You will just need to start up a new business in Florida under their cottage food law, just the same as if you had initially lived there. It’s actually much easier to start a CFO in FL, but also much more restrictive, as you can only sell $15K of product per year.

Hi! We have a cottage food business in Georgia, but will be moving to Florida in the Summer. How do we stop the business here and start it back up in Florida?

If you can get into a farmers market, that would be a great starting point for all of your items. And also ask around about other markets, like artisanal markets.
Regarding the GF baked goods, I’d say that the success of that is a combination of the GF demand in your area and the types of baked goods you’re offering. Some people have been quite…[Read more]

Hi Lauren, I think that’s totally dependent on what you are selling! For instance, custom cakes are best done from home. What are you planning to make?

You’ll need to get licenses for all three (maybe not #2), but I’m not sure which ones. You must prepare the water kefir in a commercial kitchen. For #1 and #2, contact the health dept. For #3, contact the ag dept.

Jackie, I’m not aware of the specifics for NV, but everything you said sounds about right. If you are only going to sell one cake per month, then I suggest you save some money and just give away the cake for free.

1. You can advertise any way you want, but I don’t think you can sell from home or offer delivery. If you are posting photos on Instagram and selling at a farmers market, that would be fine.
2. The other option would be to use a commercial kitchen, get a license from the health dept, and run your business with any method you’d like.
3. Cinnamon…[Read more]Searcy Lewis joined the group Packaging & Labeling 9 years, 10 months ago

I do not believe you can sell homemade items in NY if you aren’t a NY resident. You probably need to use a commercial kitchen with the appropriate license to start your business. You should talk to the farmers market in NYC to see what they require.
