Jenn, usually the only way to find info about this is to call the govt dept directly.

Jay, I’m pretty sure that your equipment doesn’t need to follow commercial standards. You should call the ag dept to make sure.

I don’t think it’s different for CFOs. If you also use your kitchen for personal use, it can’t be deducted. I’m pretty sure about that, but not 100% sure. To learn more, you need to contact whatever tax authority there is in your area — the depts that govern this are different for each state, so I don’t know what yours is called.

Sales tax and yearly income tax are entirely separate. Sales tax greatly depends on where you live and what the requirements are for your city, county, and the state of Florida. Everyone has to pay income tax, regardless of how much it is. If you make enough, you’ll need to pay estimated taxes throughout the year, similar to a self-employed…[Read more]

Yes, that’s doable but usually quite expensive and complicated. It’s likely that the commercial kitchen would have to be separate from your primary kitchen. Unless NJ has very lenient standards, you can expect to pay thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for that remodel. I would personally recommend renting at first and proving your business…[Read more]

Hey hey. Quick-ish question….
I am doing a fundraiser for my music via crowd-funding. I wanted to offer my mothers homemade cookies as an incentive for people to donate money. The crowd-funding page will be open to the public, and anyone from anywhere could potentially donate. At that point the plan was to bake the cookies and mail them to…[Read more]Kristen joined the group Florida 9 years, 9 months ago

So I’m just clarifying : I can sell cakes , cupcakes etc from my kitchen as long as I follow all procedures without having inspectors come to my house as long as I do not make over 15,000 a year ? Also do I have to use my real name or can I setup a separate Facebook page under a different name that I will use for this in particular ? And am I…[Read more]
Yes, you don’t need a kitchen inspection. Assuming that your county/city will require a business license, you can create a fictitious business name instead of operating under your own name. You should be able to do charity events as long as you follow the same procedures as you do when selling products for your own profit. Here’s some more info on…[Read more]

No, NY isn’t really setup for a custom food business, since they only allow sales at events and stores. The law is intended for a home cook who makes items and then brings them to an event and sells them there, or sells them to a store for resale. You should contact your health dept: http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

You’ll probably need to brew it in a commercial kitchen. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

I was wondering on the licencing of Kratom tea? It would be a brewed beverage and also sold retail though no food would be sold and it is a non alcoholic beverage so would it be covered by this law in some sort?

I would like to make cake pops and cupcakes at home and sell these and sell and serve coffee in my gift shop. The customers can sit down and eat at cafe tables in the shop. Is this allowed without a restaurant license?
No — I believe at that point, you’ll be considered a food establishment. At the very least, you will need to use a commercial kitchen to produce your baked goods. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial
