Labeling for cupcakes : can I have one place card in front of the items or does everything need to be individually labeled? Also – can I put “ Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix “ as the ingredients? Or does it all need to be copy and pasted from box?

As Davide mentioned: Definitely nothing with garlic in oil unless properly acidified, due to the risk of botulism.
THIS and https://extension.psu.edu/how-to-safely-make-infused-oils have instructions for the acidification, but you should check your own state’s requirements, just in case.

In most states, that would not be allowed since cut potatoes are perishable foods, whether raw or cooked.
However, in your state of Illinois, this is allowed! The main caveat is that you cannot ship them… you can only sell them directly to customers. I suggest reading through the notes in Illinois’ food section to better understand what is and…[Read more]

Yes they are allowed. And you would copy the entire ingredient list from the Skittles bag.

I am in the beginning stages of getting my application into the agriculture department. I started selling my Elderberry Syrup and Fire Cider on local platforms and I’m realizing to go to some markets and craft fairs people want to see the cert, so I’m working on that. I’m in PA, are there example layouts of a basic business plan? Elderberry Syrup…[Read more]

Hi – I am looking to sell sliced potatoes that would be covered in Salt/Olive Oil. Do you know if I fall under the Cottage Food Law? The potatoes would be bought from a grocery store.

I have two questions. I couldn’t find anything about freeze drying. Are freeze dried foods permitted under cottage law?
If so, for name brand items such as Skittles being freeze dried – under ingredients, can I list Skittles, or do I need to copy/paste their ingredients under that section. I read something about sub-ingredients, and I’m a lit…[Read more]

Hi Connie, I heard about David’s tutorial and found your post here in this group; however, I cannot seem to find his tutorial. Do you have any guidance? I have already opened an account with Square since I was thinking of using this for my 1st event to sell in-person and use for payment options they provide. However, after further reading on…[Read more]
