Sales need to be made directly between the customer and producer. A farmers market wouldn’t be able to take orders on the behalf of a vendor. If you can get into a farmers market, that would be a great starting point for all of your items. And also ask around about other markets, like artisanal markets.
Regarding the GF baked goods, I’d say that the success of that is a combination of the GF demand in your area and the types of baked goods you’re offering. Some people have been quite…[Read more]

Hi Lauren, I think that’s totally dependent on what you are selling! For instance, custom cakes are best done from home. What are you planning to make?

Jackie, I’m not aware of the specifics for NV, but everything you said sounds about right. If you are only going to sell one cake per month, then I suggest you save some money and just give away the cake for free.

The cottage food laws are only if you want to use your home kitchen. You could use the cottage food law to sell your seasoning, but you’d have to adhere to the restrictions listed under the law.
If you want to ship and/or sell out-of-state, you’ll need to use a commercial kitchen and get the appropriate license from the health dept. It will…[Read more]

Unless you are only selling dried herbs, spice mixes aren’t allowed in Missouri. http://forrager.com/law/missouri/
I believe you need to prepare them in a commercial kitchen. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercialDavid replied to the topic Spices in the forum Dry Goods 10 years, 1 month ago
It depends on the state. They’re allowed in a number of states.

I’ve been all over this site for what seems like forever and I have not seen any good news for my question. I thought I would post this question anyway. It looks like there is no way I am able to make and sell any kind of sauce from my house. I wanted to make wing sauce that includes BBQ and hot buffalo sauces. It does not look like I can do…[Read more]
