I believe that you can, but you should probably check with the county’s health dept first. For instance, I know that Miami-Dade won’t allow any cottage food sales, but that is the only county I know of that prohibits them.

My business license for my cottage law product was issued in Hillsborough County. Can I sell my fully compliant cottage law product in other counties without getting a license for each one?

Saralyn, make sure you read through Florida’s cottage food law first. There are specific foods that are allowed, and nothing that needs refrigeration or heat to stay safe is allowed. Also, all of the food preparation, packaging, and labeling must happen back in your home kitchen. If you want to warm something up at the stand, then it would have to…[Read more]

I found some recipes that stated that they were safe for another State’s Cottage Food Law. How can I find out if they are ok for Florida, too? Here is a link. http://texascottagefoodlaw.com/Resources/Recipes

Hi, anyone own a pet? If so, what county are you in? It (rules) appears to differ from one county to another or am I mistaken?

That’s not quite right… anything that is not shelf stable is not allowed, but not everything that is shelf stable is allowed. For instance, pickles are one of the items that can be shelf stable but are not yet allowed. The law currently doesn’t allow for bottled/preserved veggies.
As far as medicine goes, I really don’t know if that falls under…[Read more]

I recently started a business in which we make different type of confectionary delights and we have been approached by several different businesses in the area that would like to purchase from us wholesale to resell to the general public. My understanding is that under the cottage food act/law that we can not do this. This is killing our business…[Read more]
There are so many different things to take care of when starting a commercial food business and unfortunately, the rules are different for just about every state/county/city out there. You won’t be able to get all the info you need without calling the health dept and your local planning division.
However, I can say that getting a commercial…[Read more]

David replied to the topic Direct sales permitted from county to county? in the forum California 10 years, 9 months ago
Yes, this is correct for direct sales only. However, some counties are taking awhile implementing this change. For your indirect sales, the rules haven’t changed.

That’s a really good resource, but sometimes states don’t approve those recipes. For Florida, you need to call the Bureau of Food and Meat Inspection at 850-245-5520, and they can tell you what they allow.
