Angela, I’m sure your mom’s pimento cheese mix is amazing. However, I’m going to be straight up with you… if you or a family member is not willing to market the product, then it’s probably not going to get off the ground. Making amazing products is fairly easy; selling them is very hard — it took me years to learn this. Even Coca Cola still…[Read more]

Arkansas’ cottage food law doesn’t allow spices. You need to use a commercial kitchen to produce them. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

I do not think that any cottage food law is sophisticated enough to specify bartering transactions as monetary transactions that count against your sales limit. If it were me, I’d only count monetary transactions against the sales limit, and I’d be highly surprised if ignoring bartering transactions were illegal.

Yes, you can sell homemade spices in Utah (at home, at craft fairs, and online), but you cannot sell them interstate. So you could use eBay or Etsy as long as you only sell to buyers in Utah. Otherwise, you need to use a commercial kitchen. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

David Crabill replied to the topic CFO Online Directory in the forum Business 9 years, 4 months ago
This website has the most comprehensive statewide directory available: http://forrager.com/cfos/?regions=california
There isn’t any statewide, govt initiative to list all CFOs, but there are a few health depts that have lists of CFOs in their counties. Off the top of my head, I think Sacramento, LA, San Bernardino, Orange, and a few others have a list.

I was wondering if I could set up a tent in front of a school in Hillsborough county, and who would I contact about the legalities?

John, could you provide some references to back up your claim? It’s not about the requirements being “more” or “less” — it’s just that the requirements are different because they’re managed by a different dept. I wouldn’t be surprised if some states allow homemade pet food, but I haven’t yet confirmed that any do. Many states require animal feed…[Read more]

Usually schools have strict rules about food that can be served on their premises, so I doubt you could do this without using a commercial kitchen. You should talk with the school and the ag or health dept.
