Usually there are no ag dept licenses for selling your own produce, but when it comes to selling others’ produce, I simply don’t know. You should call your ag dept for more info.

This would be beyond the scope of cottage food laws, and I simply don’t know. You should contact your health dept.

Did the ag dept tell you that? If not, I’d recommend you call them to confirm. If that’s true, you might need to hire a lab to test your alcohol content.

Unless there is some special permit for repackaging commercially-produced foods, I think you would at least need to become a limited food establishment — I think those foods would be allowed, but I’m not completely sure. It’s best to contact the ag dept directly and ask them about your specific situation.

You need a commercial kitchen to do this, and it wouldn’t fall under the cottage food law. It’s only possible to do at home if you build a commercial kitchen on your property. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

I have a business venture that I would like to pursue (2 options). I want to prepare meals for people with different needs, primarily gluten free. I don’t know if this falls under PA Cottage Law? I would like to get an inspection (whatever type applies) prepare and package the food in my home. The meals would be delivered to my clients once a…[Read more]

Jenn, usually the only way to find info about this is to call the govt dept directly.

Jay, I’m pretty sure that your equipment doesn’t need to follow commercial standards. You should call the ag dept to make sure.
David replied to the topic Commercial Kitchens in the forum New Jersey 9 years, 9 months ago
Yes, that’s doable but usually quite expensive and complicated. It’s likely that the commercial kitchen would have to be separate from your primary kitchen. Unless NJ has very lenient standards, you can expect to pay thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for that remodel. I would personally recommend renting at first and proving your business…[Read more]

I know it seems weird, but actually those kind of prohibitions happen all the time across the country. The cottage food law doesn’t omit Charleston… the city does. It’s their choice to allow the law and if they choose not to, there’s not much you can do about it aside from moving. The most knowledgeable person about this is Sheryl, the admin at…[Read more]

I don’t know if it will be legal. The requirements for being a personal chef vary greatly among areas… you should contact your health dept to get accurate advice.

You can sell certain types of goods that don’t require refrigeration using this law: http://forrager.com/law/south-carolina/
You can sell lemon pies, but not lemon meringue pies, since those require refrigeration.
The farmers market may also have requirements beyond the cottage food law. You may also be interested in reading this:…[Read more]

You should be able to, but there are strict standards to abide by. What I’ve heard from the ag dept is overviewed in the limitations section: http://forrager.com/law/pennsylvania/#limitations

Some counties in some states (not sure about PA) offer temporary event permits that allow someone to sell certain types of homemade food for a short period of time. If your county (ag or health dept) doesn’t offer that, then you would need to setup yourself as a Limited Food Establishment: http://forrager.com/law/pennsylvania/
