Christine, this will not affect the sales cap on the HKO law.

This is a fantastic advancement to the cottage food law! Good work Rebecca and team. Hopefully the governor signs it soon.
Although this is a dramatic improvement to the current cottage food law, and it represents a breakthrough in a state that has consistently been stubborn, I don’t think this can be properly termed a food freedom initiative. I…[Read more]

The health dept could fine you, but I’m not sure if they will take immediate action. But once you go over the limit you are no longer operating as a home kitchen operation.

Selling icing sheets should be allowed in most states, but selling online is not. You probably need to produce these in a commercial kitchen and contact your health dept for the necessary licenses.

That sounds like great news! I read the article, and if I understand correctly, this will only change things for the Cottage Food Law. Will any of the changes affect the Home Kitchen Operation Law (cupcake law)? I would love to see the cap on gross receipts removed for that as well!

Yes, my daughter and I got the Cupcake Law passed in Aurora, IL in January, 2017. We simply started with and email on the city website (I sent it in the fall of 2016, and they didn’t contact me until December or January). We didn’t need to do a letter. We just worked with someone from the city and she invited us to the meetings with Aldermen and…[Read more]

Hi,
Has anyone on here been involved in petitioning your local government for support of the IL Home Kitchen Operations law? I was wondering if anyone has a letter they would be willing to share that highlights all the points to bring up when asking local government to adopt an ordinance supporting the Illinois law. I am in the process of trying…[Read more]Pooja posted an update in the group Florida 8 years, 4 months ago
Hello,
I was wondering if energy/protein bars fall under CFL? They’re no bake and use very basic ingredients. If anyone here would know, that would be great. :)Pooja joined the group Florida 8 years, 4 months ago

I have a question…is soap for people and horses covered under the CFL? Also are pet/horse treats covered too? Another question, if I set up a stand in my yard would I need any permits? I will probably have to check with local zoning or who to find out? Thank you.

I am starting to do more business in the area and all of our products are baked in a home kitchen at this time. We are getting pretty close to going over the $1,000 limit, but don’t have access to a commercial kitchen. We’re trying to get our own location to bake out of, but we are waiting on financing. What happens if we exceed the $1,000 monthly…[Read more]

Angela, I haven’t heard of an update. My response to Aimee above is still as much as I know. If you talk to the ag dept and can post an update, that would be much appreciated!
David Crabill replied to the topic Selling other products along with cottage food products in the forum Florida 8 years, 6 months ago
It should be fairly simple to sell unopened and commercially-prepackaged items, as long as they do not need to be refrigerated, but you may need some sort of permit from the ag dept to do so. You should not need to use a commercial kitchen to do this.
