Are drinks such as brewed coffee, juice from a pre-packaged bottle or lemonaid– to be sold at a home event. We will be selling handmade craft items, along with cookies and breads. Might we be allowed to ask for a donation for the drinks — that we would donate to a cause, but sell the craft and home-baked items for a profit? Fairfax County, VA. Thank you.
Are homemade cookies allowed in Fairfax County. We will be selling them along with handmade gifts — in my home driveway — similar to a garage sale setting. This would be an occasional event, and no items will be sold online or in a store. Thank you.
So I’ve been trying to look into selling baked goods from home, and I’m trying to find out exactly what I have to do to do that…I ran into this website and read about the cottage food law and I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Maple syrup isn’t specifically mentioned in VA’s cottage food law, so I’m not sure if you’re exempt from inspection, though you may be. You can sell your maple syrup as a home food processing operation, but that requires an inspection. You should contact the ag dept about this.

Yes, if you’re using a licensed commercial kitchen and have the proper license from the ag dept, you can sell online. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial
I don’t think you’ll find a resource specific to salsa, but generally, the requirements are going to be greater if you rent a kitchen. You should contact the ag dept for specific info about the business you want to start. I’d expect that you’ll have to take a course with a Better Process Control School.
Can someone point me to a resource talking about selling salsa under the cottage food law? And specifically what types of events? Farmers markets, craft fairs, vendor events, school bazaars etc. Could I rent a kitchen and bottle it without having to get a prices authority letter under the cottage food law? I am in Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Thanks!!
