NJ doesn’t have any cottage food rules, exemptions, etc. Since the doughnuts will be made in a commercial kitchen, this should be possible, but I’m not sure of the specific rules. You will still need to label them (probably in the commercial kitchen), get a food business license, etc. Since you are not actually preparing the food, and the baker…[Read more]

1. No, but you need the landlord’s permission.
2. Yes
3. Usually basic stuff, like cleanliness, proper hot water and fridge temps, plus making sure you know how to sanitize things. It will probably be easier than you’re expecting.Searcy Lewis joined the group Cookies 8 years, 9 months ago

So in this instance, I’d say it’s not a matter of whether or not it is perishable, but rather that it…[Read more]

I have a questions regarding making doughnuts in the state of CO. First question, do doughnuts fall within the cottage law in CO and second question is what are the limits if any, regarding filled doughnuts as in Jelly, Jam and/or frosting. Any advice/help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

The cottage food laws are only if you want to use your home kitchen. You could use the cottage food law to sell your seasoning, but you’d have to adhere to the restrictions listed under the law.
If you want to ship and/or sell out-of-state, you’ll need to use a commercial kitchen and get the appropriate license from the health dept. It will…[Read more]

It depends on what state you live in. Have you read about the laws for your state? http://forrager.com/laws/

David, I can assure you that most (if not all) of the CFOs in LA County have not had to spend $1,000+ on a business license. You can ask your health dept if you need a business license, but regardless, a business license should be a fairly simple process that shouldn’t cost more than a couple hundred for a small business.
I just looked up…[Read more]

Unless you are only selling dried herbs, spice mixes aren’t allowed in Missouri. http://forrager.com/law/missouri/
I believe you need to prepare them in a commercial kitchen. http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial- Load More
