It’s July 1st, 2020, and for the first time in over 7 years, I’ve added a new rank to Forrager’s map. I named it “freedom”, and Wyoming has the honor of being the first state to reach this status!
As of […]

Michael, thanks so much for letting me know. I figured out the problem, but it’s not fixed yet. Thanks for taking the time to explain the updates for Oregon’s domestic kitchen law. Sometimes this happens, where there is a difference between the law and what the health dept actually allows. I will update that page.

We just started 2020 and we already have a cottage food law update!
Except this time, it’s not a good one.
Actually, as far as I recall, this is the first time an established* cottage food law has […]

There are probably no other cookie stores for the reasons outlined above (i.e. it’s not a good sign). Also, college students can be VERY frugal, and one of the hardest groups to sell to. Things I would try: 1) […]
David Crabill commented on the post, How Many Products Should You Sell? 6 years, 2 months ago
James, it partly depends on how many you’ve sold so far. If you haven’t sold anything, then I would just start with two or three selections of one type of item. Over time, you can add more types of items as you […]

Lori, I think you are referring to the easier-to-create blog sites like WordPress.com (as opposed to WordPress self-hosted), Blogger, and others. But I still consider those websites too, and not worth your time at […]

Legally, I don’t think there’s any way for you to avoid permits. In fact, because you are selling alcohol, I think you’d have to deal with more permits than most food businesses. But truthfully, I’m not an expert […]

Over half a year into this law taking effect, it’s confirmed that health departments are holding out, and people are frustrated. Only Riverside County has decided to create an ordinance so far.

Unfortunately Alameda County is the one that proactively took measures to shutdown the growing home restaurant movement on Josephine. I am quite confident that they will never create an ordinance to allow this law.

Thanks Krystina, and it’s true, I’ve dropped the ball as of late. But I have plenty more to share and hopefully I can find the time to write some more!

You know how they say that having a business is like having a baby? I can confirm… it’s totally true.
Two months ago, Tara and I welcomed a baby boy into the world! His name is Ray.
Before Ray, I kne […]

It is harder in Indiana due to the venue restrictions. But it is still possible to do well at farmers markets alone. There is no blanket answer for what you should sell, as it depends on what people want in your […]
