Hello, I just had a quick question regarding cottage food laws and what is allowed. I thought I would try asking here!
I have a glaze that uses a “non dairy creamer” as part of the ingredients. However upon looking at the ingredients of this non dairy creamer, it states it contains less than 2% of sodium caseinate, a milk derivative. Would thi…[Read more]Becky joined the group Florida 2 years, 7 months ago

Hi all! I’ve been growing fresh vegetables and herbs like basil in my home using my hydroponics gardening systems, and I was just wondering if that is something that I can sell. Do I need a cottage food license to sell that/how do I report it on my taxes, do I need to use my LLC name to sell? Thank you so much for the info! I’ve been trying to fin…[Read more]

As Davide mentioned: Definitely nothing with garlic in oil unless properly acidified, due to the risk of botulism.
THIS and https://extension.psu.edu/how-to-safely-make-infused-oils have instructions for the acidification, but you should check your own state’s requirements, just in case.

In most states, that would not be allowed since cut potatoes are perishable foods, whether raw or cooked.
However, in your state of Illinois, this is allowed! The main caveat is that you cannot ship them… you can only sell them directly to customers. I suggest reading through the notes in Illinois’ food section to better understand what is and…[Read more]

I am in the beginning stages of getting my application into the agriculture department. I started selling my Elderberry Syrup and Fire Cider on local platforms and I’m realizing to go to some markets and craft fairs people want to see the cert, so I’m working on that. I’m in PA, are there example layouts of a basic business plan? Elderberry Syrup…[Read more]
