Don’t know about California – I’m in Florida, but the following may be helpful as some general guidelines to help you find the answers that would be specific to California.
Here, in Florida, most items sold under cottage-food law would NOT be taxable, but CANDY is ALWAYS taxable. Thus, bread, cookies, cakes, muffins, etc. would not be taxed but…[Read more]

Hi all,
Coming to you from California… Does anyone understand the necessity/ circumstances for when a sales permit is needed, and when we charge sales tax? Would anyone know the current regulation in Florida on selling freeze dried foods? I realize that fruits, vegetables and legumes etc would be allowed-but what about animal snacks (freeze dried chicken) or freeze dried meals (those with protein included-meats, etc)? Any info would be great!

Hi I am new to this kind of business but I don’t want to take the wrong steps either
So the gist of what I get from reading all the information from the forums and state websites is that the bottom line is we do need to get a business license regardless of the cottage laws that states that you can start cooking and selling right off the bat.…[Read more]Varghese Thomas joined the group Florida 5 years, 11 months ago
