I have a questions…
I have entered into agreement with local hotel to provide them with wedding cakes for clients having their reception there (they do not have a pastry chef). Right now the hotel “includes” the cake in the package they sell to the client and I am supposed to get paid from the hotel once they receive the money from the clients. Am I doing this the right way under Cottage Foods?
No, this would be considered an indirect sale, and there is currently no legal way to sell homemade foods indirectly in Florida.
The only way to legally run your business is to sell your wedding cakes directly to couples, and to have the hotel either recommend or require their clients to buy from you. Maybe it would be okay if the hotel picked up the cake for them, but the couple should be communicating with you and paying you directly.
