Saralyn, make sure you read through Florida’s cottage food law first. There are specific foods that are allowed, and nothing that needs refrigeration or heat to stay safe is allowed. Also, all of the food preparation, packaging, and labeling must happen back in your home kitchen. If you want to warm something up at the stand, then it would have to…[Read more]

I found some recipes that stated that they were safe for another State’s Cottage Food Law. How can I find out if they are ok for Florida, too? Here is a link. http://texascottagefoodlaw.com/Resources/Recipes

I recently started a business in which we make different type of confectionary delights and we have been approached by several different businesses in the area that would like to purchase from us wholesale to resell to the general public. However, I can say that getting a commercial…[Read more]

That’s all correct. You could still try contacting your health dept to see how complicated it would be to serve coffee… you might not need much more than a sellers permit. Montana has actually specifically allowed hot coffee and tea in addition to their cottage food items.

Am I correct in assuming we cannot provide brewed coffee samples or sell a cup of brewed coffee to a customer in order to sell dry roasted coffee beans? I suppose the scent of the roasted coffee beans would be the selling point rather than the brewed coffee for a Cottage Industry provider? I am in Escambia County, Florida. Thank you.

Thanks for posting this Cristina… I really hope you can help improve things. Let me know if I can help in any way… for instance, I can provide examples of how other states have added a line to their law to prevent counties from disallowing CFOs.

That’s a really good resource, but sometimes states don’t approve those recipes. For Florida, you need to call the Bureau of Food and Meat Inspection at 850-245-5520, and they can tell you what they allow.
