A Little Bit of Sunshine Cookies

Hi! New to the group but here’s my take on a Cookie Business. I started my company last December with a Class A CFL making drop cookies, bundt cakes, cupcakes, and breads. I didn’t start doing custom cookies until February for Valentine’s Day. At the time I was doing a weekly Farmers Market but wasn’t doing all the great. Anyone can make what I…[Read more]

Today we moved our CFO Pro plan out of beta, and it now costs $5 per month. Thanks to everyone who tried it out while it was in beta!

I think the problem with cookie businesses is that they’re often more fun than profitable. If you’re interested in turning it into a money-making business, I’d recommend skipping the markets and trying to focus on direct deliveries of batch orders. And if you do some markets, consider them an advertising expense and then you can’t be…[Read more]

Forrager grew up a little bit today. We just added a Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which you can check out in the footer.

I just wrote a blog post that describes how my thoughts about cookie businesses shifted over the past few years: http://forrager.com/2015/09/is-a-cookie-business-a-good-idea/
I’d be interested to hear your own experiences starting a cookie business, and if you agree or disagree with me. Are non-specialized (but really good) cookies too much…[Read more]

I would like to know where to begin about getting the legislation changed in FL regarding our guidelines. Any suggestions? There’s a large community of bakers who have a passion for baking but our limits for sales is on a hobby level. I’m a stay at home mom to a special needs son, I can’t have a 9-5 job, but would love to be able to bring in more…[Read more]
Usually amendments start with someone like you. There is a huge number of home bakers in Florida so I think someone just needs to get the ball rolling. Here’s an article about amending a cottage food law: http://forrager.com/2015/05/lobbying-amending-cottage-food-law/
PERFECT! Thanks! This is exactly what I needed! Do you know of any groups/people in FL that have started a movement already? This article suggests to do a thorough search to see if there are any others. I’m just not sure where to start on that either. :-/
You could try doing a Google search for cottage food law petitions. I don’t know of anyone currently working on Florida’s law.

Forrager’s laws and CFOs pages now have filtering capabilities, which make it much easier to find information. Now you can answer questions like “Which states allow online sales?” and “Who makes granola in Nevada?” You can even answer more complex questions like “Who makes gluten-free birthday cakes in California?” The new filter dropdowns are…[Read more]

First of all, although I’m familiar with the law, I’m not really in a position where I could override anything that an official in your area says. Here are my thoughts:
1) Your farmers market manager is telling you that you can’t use the cottage food law. You need to make you food in a commercial kitchen and get a few other things. There’s no…[Read more]David started the topic New Features for CFO Pro Members in the forum Forrager 9 years, 2 months ago
