I can’t remember… do they ask for a NAICS code?
If so, then it depends on your business, but most cottage foods businesses would use either code 445291 (Baked Goods Stores) or 445292 (Confectionary and Nut Stores).

I am just beginning my “cookies and other assorted sweets” home-based business in SC and am a bit nervous about the sales tax idea. My understanding is that our county does not require me to have a business license but that I DO need to get a tax ID number. Any wisdom out there?

I’m not sure, but I will say that sales tax requirements are very dependent on the area that you live. Someone one county over might have different requirements.
