There are some counties that will not approve anything that isn’t explicitly on the approved list, and it sounds like you’re in one of those counties. In that case, you either need to adapt your products or go the commercial route.

Samantha, you may need licensing and you need to reach out to your county. You probably don’t need insurance unless a sales venue requires it.

I’m not entirely sure why they haven’t yet approved chocolate-covered strawberries, but it may have something to do with their shelf life. In Florida, cottage foods cannot require refrigeration, so ice creams aren’t allowed (even non-dairy ones). I also would not expect the ag dept to allow non-dairy creamers. In both cases, the water activity level (aW) of the product would be high and probably potentially hazardous (cottage foods are non-PHFs).

I think Sandie is referring to the health dept.
This is county-dependent, though. I would not expect most counties to allow two CFOs to operate from the same kitchen.

Is it allowed for two people who live in the same home such as husband and wife to each obtain his/her CFO permit and share their home kitchen to do the baking?
How the $50,000 gross sales is enforced by the environmental health services? do you need to send a copy of your taxes fillings to them?

The USDA says that you can still use the word to identify “organic sugar” or other organic products on your ingredients list only, as long as you do the following:
Prevent commingling with non-organic products and contact with prohibited substances.
