If I fall within all the guidelines of the Cottage Law for Va., do I need to contact anyone to actually start my business?

Yes — you should contact your planning division and see if there are any local requirements, like a general business license.

    Hi!
I’m thinking of preparing homemade salads ‘to go’ will this fall under cottage law, or do I have to get licenses, approval and all that?

Salads do not fall under the cottage food law… you need a commercial license: http://forrager.com/faq/#commercial

It looks like nut-cheeses (non-dairy cheese made from cashews, herbs, and rejuvelac) would not be allowed under the current law because these products need to be refrigerated. Is that correct?

    That’s correct.
