Hi there,

First off, the live workshop last week was great! It went a bit longer than I expected, but I had so much information to cover about building a website. In case you missed it, you can still sign up to get the replay.

Well, it's finally here: my first podcast episode with a MALE guest! After six consecutive interviews with women, David Kaminer showed up to prove that us men can have cottage food businesses too. :)

I'm kidding, of course. In fact, I fully expected that the vast majority of my interviews would be with women. It's no secret that women easily dominate the cottage food industry!

The Institute for Justice's survey a few years ago found that 83% of cottage food businesses are female. And I see similar proportions in the stats of website visitors on Forrager, as well as listeners on the podcast.

David Kaminer is a super-passionate sourdough bread baker from Denver, CO, and his business has basically doubled in the past couple months during the coronavirus pandemic, stretching the limits of the pizza oven that he built into his kitchen.

But he was plenty successful before this sudden sales influx. Over the past 5 years, he's built up a loyal following, where dozens of customers swing by his home every Friday to pick up their bread orders.

I visited David's bakery in early 2016 (Raleigh Street Bakery was a year old at that point) and I was very impressed. I was even more impressed when talking to him for this interview. He's truly a master at his craft, and he shares how his 15 years experience in commercial food service influenced his intentionally small home bakery.

P.S. By the way, remember not to judge a book by its cover. I noticed that fewer people listened to my last episode about "wholesale strategies" with Sonia, but trust me: you don't have to be interested in wholesaling to get a lot out of that episode. You'll find her journey fascinating, and her smart approach to marketing is definitely applicable to anyone.
