Allyson was 15 years into her professional baking career when her company decided to shutdown the baking side of their business.
Suddenly
she was left jobless, but she quickly came up with an idea to start her own baking business from home, and sell to her company's former customers.
What most entrepreneurs would do is come up with a business name, form the business, and then go to the customers and say: "I just started ABC Bakery and am selling XYZ. Do you want to buy from me?"
But Allyson did NOT do that. What Allyson did was so smart, and I wish I had dug more into it in
this week's episode. That's why I'm highlighting it here.
Instead, the day after she got laid off, Allyson called the customers and said: "I'm thinking of starting a bakery to sell the items you used to get from my former company. If I open it, would you order from me?"
Naturally, everyone said yes. By doing that,
she got her customers to be part of her business journey, and in effect, allowed her customers to be the ones who started her business, not her.
Despite facing setback after setback,
she's continued to restart and build successful businesses over the past 25 years.
