Hi there,
A couple weeks ago, I gave you an inside look into the numbers of my fudge business, and
how I increased sales by 74% with a simple tweak.
Many people responded saying they loved that email, and I'm glad it was helpful!
But one person wanted to know:
How was I making a "free shipping" offer work, considering the high cost of shipping? The answer:
use a shipping service.
If you are still paying the shipping rates that USPS, UPS, and FedEx charge, then (to put it bluntly) you are basically throwing money away.Once you start a business,
you can access commercial shipping rates, which are far cheaper than what consumers pay.
For instance, to ship a 2 lb box of fudge with USPS Priority Mail within CA, I pay $7.02.
But to ship the exact same box with post office prices, I'd pay $11.45.
That's a 39% discount! And sometimes it's more.And the best part is,
there's no cost to use a shipping service. Once you've established a business, there's literally no reason not to use one!
So which service should you use? There are many good ones, but
I'd recommend Pirate Ship or Shippo.
I personally use Shippo, simply because it's integrated into my Square Online website (
here's my tutorial to set one up) and it's super easy. Once an order comes in through my site, I just print the label from my orders page and it's done!
So there you have it. If you ship anything with your business,
take a few minutes to setup a shipping service for your business. You won't regret it!
Until next week,
David
