Hi there,
Imagine this: you get an email titled "Michaels Inquiry".
It's from the VP of Food Crafting at Michaels. They say they are impressed by your cottage food business and want to partner with you to create a product line for their stores nationwide.
What would you think? Would it sound too good to be true?
Well, that's exactly what happened to Jill!
She only started her cottage food business a few years ago (in 2018), but now she literally has products in Michaels stores across the country!*
In fact, if you've been in a Michaels store in the past few months, you might have already seen her
Kaboom Chocolaka chocolate piñata molds [VIDEO].
Suffice it to say that Jill's cottage food business has taken her places that she never dreamed of! “I just feel like I’m still dreaming,” says Jill.
This is easily one of the most remarkable stories that I've had on the podcast.
And it was really too much to cover in one episode. Because, aside from the whole Michaels thing, she's also got a thriving cottage food business that she still runs full tilt.
So this is a two-parter. In this first part, she mainly talks about her cottage food business, and what led her to the Michaels opportunity.
And in the second part, we dig into how she got a product line onto the store shelves at Michaels.
But fear not! Although I usually release podcast episodes every two weeks, I'm going to release Part 2 next week, so that we'll have a new cottage food entrepreneur on the show two weeks from now, like usual. In other words, you'll get a new episode for 3 weeks in a row!
Alright, need I say more? You're going to want to listen to this one!
Listen to Episode 53: Creating A Smash Hit with Jill BaethgeUntil next week,
David
* P.S. If you're intrigued by Jill's molds and want to
buy some from Michaels, I suggest you act really fast! Unlike when I recorded this interview (less than 3 weeks ago), they now have her molds on clearance and many are already out of stock, which apparently was always part of the plan (it was a holiday seasonal thing). From what I could gather, I'm guessing that Jill's products will probably be available in the future through some other retailer (or online), but I have no idea when that will happen.
