Hi there,
First,
congrats to Missouri for improving their cottage food law! Their new bill (
HB 1697) just went into effect this week.
Missouri certainly has a
unique cottage food law. It has two parts: 1) an exemption for people who sell non-perishable foods at "individual stands" (e.g. events), and 2) a law for those who sell baked goods, jams, jellies, and herbs from home.
Combined, they form a pretty good cottage food law.
This week's law improvement applies to #2, which mainly applies to bakers selling from home (not at events). It
removes the former $50k sales limit and also now allows online sales.
It also looks like
in-state shipping is now allowed for baked goods, jams, jellies, and herbs, though the law isn't explicitly clear about that.
Alright, this week I FINALLY started to put some effort into my social media accounts.
I now have a
brand new (and long overdue) Instagram account.
And you'll want to
check out my first Instagram post, where I show the
drastic evolution of Forrager's map over the past decade.
But I must admit... I'm not a social media person. At all.
Last year, the average US adult spent over 2 hours per day on social media. For me, it was closer to 10 minutes!
So actually, my newest team member is doing all of the legwork for posting on my social accounts. I couldn't do it without her!
Moving forward,
you will start to see more posts on my Facebook and Instagram pages. And I'll get back to posting on
TikTok too.
For now, I'll be
posting some of the best excerpts from each podcast episode.
But... what would you like to see?Is there something you'd like me to post that will be valuable to you and/or other cottage food entrepreneurs?
My hope is that my social accounts will not only provide value to those who follow them, but also help others discover and benefit from the resources on Forrager.
Until next week,
David
P.S. Hopefully this goes without saying, but if you could take a moment to follow my
Facebook and/or
Instagram accounts, I'd really appreciate it!
P.P.S. I think this is the first time I've shared
the earliest image that I have of Forrager's map.
