I am a member of a nonprofit charitable/service organization. We are considering the sale of pie/cakes etc at our local Farmers Market and/or local community events to raise funds for the organization. I have read the law and am still confused if this is a non hazardous food and we can do this in our own kitchens or do we have to have a permit.

As long as all of the proceeds go to the nonprofit, usually there is an exemption that you can use: http://forrager.com/faq/#nonprofit
